Aberdeen and Montrose exhibition, 7 August to 9 September 2012; Tolbooth Museum, Castle Street, Aberdeen AB10 1EX

2012 is the 400th anniversary of the birth of James Graham, the Marquis of Montrose, this exhibition explores the turbulent relationship between Montrose and Aberdeen and the infamous Battle of Justice Mills on Friday 13 September 1644.

Body snatching re-enactments, 8 September 2012; Tolbooth Museum, Castle Street, Aberdeen AB10 1EX

Re-enactment of the trial following the Anatomy House Riots of 1831. In December 1831 as riot led to a crowd breaking into a setting fire to the Anatomical Theatre on St Andrews St after a dog dug up fragments of human bone in the theatre’s grounds. Join the magistrates as they try to get to the bottom of what was going on. Runs: Midday, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm. Booking not required.

Skene's Through the Centuries exhibition; Aberdeen Maritime Museum, Shiprow, Aberdeen

The top floor of Provost Skene's House has been refurbished with generous funding through the Recognition Scheme, managed by Museums Galleries Scotland. The new displays include the exhibition, Skene's through the Centuries, which looks at the long, rich and fascinating history and archaeology of the House itself and its surrounding area, a townscape that is about to change dramatically once again with the demolition of St Nicholas House. Artists’ impressions are an excellent way of bringing the past to life, using information from documentary and archaeological sources to present authentic images of familiar city locations long ago. Excavation at Tullos Hill; 22 August to 4 September 2012

Excavation of prehistoric sites on Tullos Hill, Aberdeen, on behalf of Aberdeen City Council. Volunteers aged fourteen and above welcome, but must arrange in advance by contacting CFA Archaeology. Stout boots, preferably steel toe-caps, suitable clothing. To book a place, tel: 0131 273 4380.
