Scottish archaeology - East Lothian Archaeology and Local History Fortnight - 1 to 16 September 2012

East Lothian Archaeology and Local History Fortnight will run from 1 to 16 September 2012.

The programme for the East Lothian Archaeology Local History Fortnight has been released. The event, which takes place from 1 to 16 September 2012, features events and talks across the county, beginning with a heritage festival on 1 September at the Town House in Haddington, with stalls and exhibitions from local groups and short talks about local heritage.

Among the programme highlights are Digging for Pineapples (2 September), which is an archaeology dig at Amisfield Walled Gardens; a family and local history day (4 September) at the John Gray Centre, with workshops and talks; Mucking About in a Midden (5 September) at North Berwick Law, the chance to watch local children sifting through an eroded midden dating to the Bronze and Iron Ages; Musselburgh's hidden renaissance (6 September) - uncovering the secrets of the gardens at Newhailes; the three St Andrews Churches of North Berwick (7 September) - a short walk with North Berwick Historical Research Society; the World War II archaeology of Longniddry (9 September) a circular walk exploring the defences of the Forth; and an earthwork survey workshop (14 September) at Dirleton which offers visitors the chance to find out about different archaeological survey techniques.
