13 February 2012

New exhibiton profiles campaign for Scottish DemocracyA new exhibition at the Museum of Edinburgh profiles the campaign for Scottish Democracy through campaign material including leaflets and posters.

The Museum of Edinburgh is the venue for a new exhibition, which runs until 24 April 2012, and focuses on the campaign for Scottish Democracy.

Democracy for Scotland: the Referendum Experience chronicles images, campaign materials, testimonies and much more, as part of the movement for a parliament during the latter half of the twentieth century.

Culture and Leisure Convener, Cllr Deidre Brock opened the exhibition, and said: “This City is at the heart of Scottish politics, so it's absolutely fitting one of our museums is showcasing this topical exhibit about an important chapter in Scottish political history. It will inform and inspire all those who visit.'

The exhibition brings together a wealth of material from both the Scottish Political Archives and collections from the City of Edinburgh’s Museums and Galleries. It focuses on the run up to the referendums of 1979 and 1997, using campaign materials including leaflets, pamphlets, posters and badges deriving from all the major political parties and umbrella groups.
