The May/June issue of History Scotland magazine is a special issue devoted to the battle of Bannockburn, as we mark the 700th anniversary of the battle and the opening of a new state-of-the-art visitor centre devoted to people and places connected with Bannockburn.

Our editor Dr Alasdair Ross has commissioned experts including Professor Ted Cowan and archaeologist Dr Tony Pollard to write in-depth features about the battle, focusing on the area where the fighting is believed to have taken place, the climate and weather and the time of the battle, plus a look at the lead-up to the battle and whether Robert the Bruce lured the English to a battle site of his choosing.

As always, we bring you the latest news from Scotland’s history and archaeology communities, including a site report from a dig at Dollar Glen, and a curator review of the new Scottish Gold exhibition at the Hunterian.
History Scotland is the world's premier Scottish history magazine, available in print and digital editions.

The magazine was launched in October 2001 at the Royal Museum in Edinburgh by Professor Christopher Smout, Historiographer Royal, who is now one of the magazine’s patrons. It is backed by the Scottish history and archaeology professions with leading representatives from a variety of different disciplines on the Editorial Board.

History Scotland provides fascinating features on topics from all branches and periods of Scottish history and archaeology.

The bi-monthly magazine, which is edited by author and lecturer Dr Alasdair Ross of Stirling University, reflects current thinking, the latest research and new discoveries, and is written by Scotland’s leading historians, archaeologists and museum curators.

The magazine is a must-read for anyone with a passion for Scotland's rich history and heritage, and includes:

• ground-breaking articles by the world's top experts
• in-depth news
• events listings
• book reviews
• opinion columns
• archives examined
…and much more.

History Scotland welcomes the participation of organisations, local enthusiasts as well as members of the professions in the magazine and the website. We are happy to receive letters and e-mails to the editor and discussion on the articles as well as information on events, lectures, conferences, exhibitions or news.

Each issue of the magazine includes information on local history and family history groups and societies, including a focus on a different group in each issue, and so serves as a central resource for many different organisations both in Scotland and further afield. If you would like to send information regarding your group or society, such as recent events or news stories, e-mail us at info@historyscotland.com.

History Scotland is a must-read for anyone with an interest in the country's rich history and heritage.
